India to host global meet of cooperatives in Delhi from Nov. 25

India is all set to host the global conference of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) next week in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025’ at the conference on Monday, November 25, 2024.

India is set to host the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) General Assembly and Global Cooperative Conference for the first time in the ICA’s 130-year history. The event, initiated by IFFCO, will take place in Delhi from November 25 to 30, 2024, marking a significant moment for the global cooperative movement.

Launch of UN Year of Cooperatives 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives 2025 during the opening ceremony on November 25.
Participation: The event will witness approximately 3,000 delegates, including 1,000 international participants from over 100 countries. Esteemed guests include Bhutan's Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Fiji's Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica.
Inaugural Session: Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will chair the inaugural session as the Chief Guest.

Pakistan’s Participation: While the participation of Pakistan remains uncertain, protocols managed by the Ministry of External Affairs are in place for such countries.
India’s Cooperative Network: With 25% of the world’s cooperatives, India boasts over 8 lakh cooperatives. The conference will provide an opportunity to highlight the strength and achievements of India’s cooperative sector.

Theme: The conference is themed ‘Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All’ with subthemes focusing on policy frameworks, leadership, cooperative identity, and sustainable development for the 21st century.
Sustainability: The event is planned to be carbon-neutral, with 10,000 peepal trees planted across India. Only vegetarian food will be served, and alcohol will be prohibited.
