Launch of STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2024Launched on June 24, 2024, by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, along with Union Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel and Shri Jadhav Patraprao Ganpatrao. IEC materials like logo, posters, radio spots, and audio visuals were released. ORS and zinc tablets were distributed to children.
Goal of the CampaignTo achieve zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea. The campaign will run for 2 months, distributing 2 ORS packets and zinc as co-packaging to under-5 children, with extensive IEC and multi-sector collaboration.
Relationship with Mission Indradhanush and Rotavirus VaccineShri J P Nadda highlighted the unique relationship between Mission Indradhanush, Rotavirus vaccine, and the STOP Diarrhoea Campaign. India introduced the Rotavirus vaccine in 2014. Initiatives like National Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Ayushman Arogya Mandir network have contributed to reducing diarrhoea cases and mortality.
Emphasis on Sensitizing Health WorkersImportance of sensitizing health workers and enhancing capacity building for diarrhoea management. States were encouraged to increase awareness among the masses.
Statements by Dignitaries- Shri Jadhav Prataprao emphasized prevention, cleanliness, and setting diarrhoea prevention targets.- Smt. Anupriya Patel urged re-energizing efforts to achieve zero childhood deaths due to diarrhoea.- Shri Apurva Chandra highlighted the reinvigoration of the campaign from a fortnightly to a comprehensive 2-month campaign.- Dr Atul Goel emphasized the preventable nature of diarrhoea and the campaign's role in strengthening management strategies.
Zero Child Death InitiativeRebranding of Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) as STOP Diarrhoea Campaign, focusing on Prevent, Protect, and Treat (PPT) strategy. Slogan: "Diarrhoea ki Roktham, Safai aur ORS se rakhen apna dhyaan".
Two Phases of the Campaign- Preparatory Phase: 14th to 30th June 2024.- Campaign Phase: 1st July to 31st August 2024.
Focus Areas- Strengthening Health Infrastructure.- Improving Access to Clean Water and Sanitation.- Enhancing Nutritional Programs.- Promoting Hygiene Education.
